Activity Three

This puzzle (titled “aquatic and terrestrial”) will reinforce the definitions of aquatic and terrestrial.  Shown are a variety of organisms.  Your students, either alone or through group discussion, should decide which category each organism belongs in.  Students should draw a line between the water and the aquatic organisms and between the land and the terrestrial organisms.  In your discussion about this exercise, point out some features that make aquatic and terrestrial organisms different.  For example, we see fins and gills on only aquatic organisms, terrestrial animals breathe air, aquatic animals usually swim while terrestrial animals walk.  Make sure your students note that some organisms are aquatic or terrestrial at times.
